Living With Men
With Manon Garcia
How do power and social norms shape our desires and most intimate relationships? And why do patterns of male dominance persist in societies where men and women are equal before the law? Patriarchal structures reach far beyond politics, institutions, and the workplace. They influence our ideas about sex, love, and the roles men and women are expected to play.
On 20 January, French philosopher Manon Garcia joins us to discuss Living with Men, her reflections on sexual violence and masculinity in the wake of the Pelicot trial. Together with her earlier book The Joy of Consent, which explores the meaning and limits of consent, it provides the starting point for a conversation about feminism, freedom, and the politics of intimacy. Can relationships between men and women truly change while the inequalities that underpin them remain? And what would it take to challenge domination in our everyday lives?
