AMO and the Harvard Graduate School of Design devoted a three-month studio in Rotterdam to exploring and engaging with the (European) countryside.
As cities cover 2% of the world’s surface, the studio focuses on the 98% percent less accounted for to start understanding how – in the explicit absence of designers – this political, cultural, economic and tech-driven landscape is evolving and can function as a reservoir of ideas to speculate on the outcomes of the 21st century.
The exhibition shows a brief multimedia inventory of initial interests and findings by the Harvard GSD students. At platform for city culture De Dépendance this research-in-progress is presented and discussed in a public debate with Rem Koolhaas, Reinier de Graaf, Niklas Maak, Sébastien Marot, Armen Avanessian and Petra Blaisse.
